Pipilotti Rist, Hayward Gallery, London

At the Hayward Gallery we are currently installing some intricate wallpaper for the Pipilotti Rist Exhibition. The installation consists of the hanging of non adhesive vinyl to the staircase at the Hayward Gallery. This is a very complicated wallpaper which requires very precise installation however the finished article will be amazing. We will be posting photos once installation is completed

Rotunda Roof, Tate Britain, London

The Rotunda Roof has now been completed at the Tate Britain and the end result was one of great satisfaction. It went so well that professional photographs have been taken and a press release is being put together by Liquid Plastics.

Barry Flanagan Exhibition, Tate Britain, London

The final touches are being completed on the installation of the Barry Flanagan Exhibition, this is a contemporary art exhibition of his early work between 1965- 1982 and is mainly sculptures. We completed all works within the time frame allocated and are very pleased with the results. We hope to have photos up shortly. John Martin Exhibition, Tate Britain, London

We have just finished the installation of the John Martin Apocolypse Exhibition due to open on the 21st September 2011 and run until the 15th January 2012. This exhibition was not a particularly large one however it had a complex cinema room within it which required specialist benching to be made specifically for the exhibition. Oxo Tower, Tamesa Restaurant

We transformed the Tamesa restaurant space at the Oxo Tower, London from a restaurant into an exhibition and entertainment area for VIP clients. Works consisted of the removal of the existing bars, new lighting throughout as well as making good all flooring and decoration throughout. All came together on time and within the specified budget.

Tate Stores, Tate Britain

Tate Stores is a storage facility used by the Tate Britain away from the Gallery in London. The areas have a lot of rising damp on the walls which need to be rectified before anything is stored within them. To prevent further rising damp and mould growth on the walls we used liquid plastics Sterisheen. The pre treatment for these is a wash down with diluted biowash to prevent re growth of mould.

Tate Britain – Rotunda Roof

We have commenced works on the rotunda roof at the Tate Britain, this is a liquid plastics project and is quite a complicated roof. Firstly we start by cleaning down the roof area using biowash before we apply the basecoat of liquid plastic. Once the basecoat has been applied we will then we applying a mid coat followed by a top coat of Liquid plastics Decothane top coat to achieve the Decothane Delta 25. The photos shown here are the Rotunda Roof before any pre treatment or application. We will be putting up further photos as the job commences.

The Challenge
The roof of this 1970’s residential building, located on the famous Upper Richmond Road in Putney, needed to be waterproofed. The project itself posed a number of problems due to the various difficult details within the roof area and the fact that the building would be occupied throughout the works.

The Solution
A Decothane Gamma 20 system from Liquid Plastics was specified for the project. This is a cold, liquid applied system that cures to form a completely seamless waterproof membrane. The full system consists of a Decothane Base Coat, reinforced with Reemat Premium glass fibre matting, and completed with a Decothane Top Coat.

The Benefits
Liquid Plastics’ Decothane systems are all completely cold applied, thus removing the need for any heat or naked flame during installation. This means roofing works can be safely completed whilst the building is occupied without causing any risk to the residents below. Decothane’s liquid application also means detail areas can be easily encapsulated within the waterproof membrane. Furthermore, once installed the Decothane system is guaranteed to last for 20 years and provides completely seamless waterproof protection.

Tate Britain – Southwark Stores

At the Tate Britain we completed a job in the N store of their Southwark Stores building. During the refurbishment of the N Store a space was created for photography art work. We formed a typical gallery space to allow correct lighting of artworks to take place. The floor was particularly important because it had to be completed in such a way that the light did not bounce off of it to the cameras being used. We laid oak flooring down and painted the existing floor using a Watco Epoxy Matt Coat. In addition to the floor a new suspended ceiling was installed to create the ‘typical gallery space’

Watercolour Exhibition, Tate Britain, London

The Watercolour Exhibition at the Tate Britain build follows on straight after the Susan Hiller Exhibition build. Although the timescale is still short this Exhibition is considerably smaller that the previous build. The Watercolour Exhibition opens to the public on 16th February 2011-21st August 2011.

M C Designers Ltd returned in 2011 and went straight into the build for the Susan Hiller Exhibition at the Tate Britain. This build is one of the largest at the Tate Britain consisting of 1200 acoustic Soundblock walls, a short timescale and precise specification that M C Designers Ltd have to follow, however the finished product with be amazing. The Susan Hiller Exhibition opens to the public on 1st February 2011- 15th May 2011.

Grand Designs Live Show, NEC Birmingham

We have just completed for the second time the installation of the coils and the floating ceiling for the Grand Designs Live show at the NEC in Birmingham. This was a short exhibition only running for the weekend and we have now taken it down again. The works were completed for media 10 on behalf of Grand Designs as we did previously.

Muybridge Exhibition & Whiteread Exhibition, Tate Britain London

Decothane is a high performance polyurethane coating, which rapidly becomes resistant to rain damage. It cures to form a completely seamless, elastomeric, vapour permeable membrane. Each system consists of an application of Decothane Base Coat, fully reinforced with either Reemat Standard Glass Fibre Matting or Reemat Premium Glass Fibre Matting. Once dry, an application of Decothane Top Coat is added - followed by an additional Top Coat for the Decothane Delta 25 system.

Whitworth Art Gallery (University of Manchester), Manchester

We recently were contacted by the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester to hang some specialised wallpaper designed by the late Angus Fairhurst. This wallpaper is quite unique and we have hung it at various locations throughout the UK including the Tate Britain A Gadda Da Vida, various restaurants and the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol.

The Whitworth Art Gallery includes various different wallpapers ranging from modern and historic to rare and unusual pieces.

Courtauld Gallery, Somerset House, London- Michelangelo's Dream

We are currently undertaking works at the Courtauld Gallery for Michelangelo's Dream and the exhibition there is due to open on the 18th February- 16th May 2010. The build consists of the fabrication of showcases made up of metal work, MDF and glass tops. These showcases will hold all the Michelangelo drawings.

Michelangelo's The Dream will be the main attraction for this exhibition as it is one of 'the greatest of all renaissance drawings' (Coutauld Gallery), however on show there will also be a unique collection of Michelangelo drawings making this an exquisite exhibition.

Turner Prize 2009, Tate Britain, London

We have completed the Turner Prize 2009 build where we worked closely with the Turner Prize nominees. The exhibition opened on the 6th October 2009 and the winner will be announced later on this year by the chosen ‘jury' members.

Grand Designs Live Exhibition, NEC Birmingham

For the Grand Designs Live Exhibition 9-11 October 2009 at NEC Birmingham M C Designers installed the coils and the floating ceiling as shown in the pictures. The coils were made of an aluminium frame covered in blue fabric. These works were completed for Media 10 on behalf of Grand Designs.

Courtauld Gallery, Somerset House, London- Auerbach Exhibition

Due to commence on the 24th September the Auerbach Exhibition consists of a collection of Frank Auerbach's post war paintings including sites such as St Pauls Cathedral in London. This exhibition is a fairly small build and will be completed on the 29th September 2009

Turner and Masters Exhibtion - Tate Britain, London

As well as the Ofili exhibition and the Turner Prize we have also won the Turner and Masters exhibition. We have commenced works on this today 28th August 2009 and will have the exhibition build completed by the 6th September 2009. The build consists of approximately 100LM of walling to be fabricated, plus take down of the previous exhibition and redecoration throughout the galleries.

Kings Place, London – The Ruth Borchard Collection

We have successfully completed the Borchard Collection decoration at Kings Place. All those involved were happy with the works and it looks brilliant. The art is being installed now and the exhibition is due to run from the 24th July- 30th August 2009

The Borchard collection was founded by Ruth Borchard who started the collection back in the 1950's. The collection consists of British self portraits including works by Raymond Coxon and Ithell Colquhoun.

Ruth Borchard's main inspiration was to include in her collection works from young artists who showed an amazing potential. Although as her confidence grew she approached other artists who were at the height of their careers although some declined the offer many are part of her collection now showing at Kings Place.

We are currently preparing for another job at the Kings Place Gallery for the up and coming exhibition The Ruth Borchard Collection – British Self-Portraits in the Twentieth Century – this includes the masking and painting of panels onto the existing walls. Also the hanging and decoration of some MDF on split battens to display the art works on.

Tate Britain – Chris Ofili

Chris Ofili has displayed his paintings at the Tate Britain back in 2005 and is returning to recreate his previous work. Thirteen paintings will be displayed in a specially designed walnut environment. Ofili has been criticised in the past because of the chapel like qualities of the exhibit and the suggestion that the arrangements of his thirteen paintings represents that of Christ and his apostles.

Chris Ofili spans across 3 galleries and consists of mainly carpentry and joinery works. The carpentry and joinery works consist of floor, ceiling and wall construction fabricated from standard jumbo stud and MDF but over clad in a walnut veneer which will have a lacquered finish.

Tate Britain – Turner Prize Exhibiton

M C Designers Ltd has won both the Ofili and Turner Prize Exhibition at the Tate Britain. The Turner Prize is due to open on the 6th October 2009 and runs until the 3rd January 2010. Works will start on both exhibitions in September of this year.

The Turner Prize Exhibition will span across 12 galleries and will consist of mainly the building of various walls throughout the galleries to hold the artists exhibits for this prestigious prize. We will also be decorating the galleries throughout.

M C Designers wins first contract with the Royal Academy of Engineering

M C Designers Ltd is pleased to announce we have won our first contract at the Royal Academy of Engineering. The works consist of the supply and fitting of their new mahogany bespoke doors onsite. Redecoration works throughout the Royal Academy of Engineering’s meeting room where the works are taking place, the supply and fitting of new electrics based on architects drawings received and the replacement flooring to the meeting room. This job is due for completion by Monday 6th July and we will be finished by tomorrow 3rd July for hand over to take placed on Monday as planned.

Whitechapel Gallery – Wallpapering to a Tight Deadline

M C Designers have been awarded a wallpapering job at the Whitechapel gallery which consists of the wallpapering of 504sqm of gallery walls and also including the free standing walls. During the installation of the wallpaper we were asked to wallpaper a further 300sqm of wall which we gladly accepted. The wallpapering was completed on a very tight timescale and M C Designers Ltd worked hard to deliver not only an impressive finished product but also to fit in with the galleries timescale. We are please to say we completed these works on time and the Whitechapel Gallery were very impressed with the finished product for their up and coming exhibition.

Courtauld Gallery – Beyond Bloomsbury Exhibition

Courtauld Gallery- Beyond Bloomsbury Exhibition

M C Designers Ltd is pleased to announce that we have won our first job at the Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House for the exhibition Beyond Bloomsbury. This job has been both a challenge but also highly rewarding. The works consisted of the fabrication of specialist showcases which were made offsite at our joinery shop. These were then delivered to site and installed by our staff. We have not completed the works fully yet but once they are completed we will be publishing photos in our 'gallery' section of our website, so please feel free to return and have a look at what we have achieved. The Beyond Bloomsbury exhibition runs from the 18th June to the 20th September 2009.

Tate Britain - Classified Exhibition

After completion of the Richard Long Exhibition M C Designers Ltd went straight on to install the Classified Exhibition at the Tate Britain. This exhibition ran across 6 galleries and consisted of the redecoration of all galleries, construction and dismantling of temporary walls and the fabrication of plinths for the art works to be displayed on. The exhibition is running at the Tate Britain from 22nd June to the 23rd August 2009

Tate Britain- Richard Long Exhibition

The installation of the Richard Long exhibition went very smoothly and M C Designers Ltd had the privilege of working alongside Richard Long the artist of the exhibition. We completed the installation on time and finished the works on Friday 15th May 2009. The exhibition will be running at the Tate Britain from the 3rd June to the 6th September

Tate Britain– Triennial Exhibition / Van Dyck Exhibition

Back in January 2009 MC Designers built the new Van Dyck exhibition along with the Triennial exhibition on the first floor of the Tate Britain. The Van Dyck exhibition took 2 weeks to complete and the Triennial exhibition took 3 weeks. The Triennial exhibition is running until Sunday the 26th April 2009 and the Van Dyck exhibition is running until the 17th May 2009.

As well as constructing the gallery layout for each artist the MC Designers team assisted the artists within the Triennial exhibition to construct various pieces of artwork.

We are currently preparing for the de-installation of the Triennial Exhibition and preparing for the installation of Richard Long due to commence Thursday 7th May 2009.

Richard Long will be installed across 19 gallery modules this will consist of the removal of the current layout and the installation of new walls to divide up the galleries as necessary and will be completed by the 15th May 2009.

Tate Britain – Vong Phoaphanit Exhibition

MC Designers installed all the steel works and assisted with the bamboo preperation alongside the Tate Britain art handlers in the Vong Phaophanit exhibition.

We are currently de-installing the Vong Phoaphanit exhibition in preparation for the installation of the Richard Long exhibition due to commence on Thursday 7th May 2009. This involves the careful removal of the steels and grates which will then be transported from site into storage.
